The Explosive Growth of Health Savings Accounts (HSAs)
In 2004, 438,000 individuals were covered by HSA-type insurance plans-according to the American Health Insurance Providers (AHIP).
Today, 3.2 million individuals are covered by HSA- type insurance plans according to AHIP.
The US Department of the Treasury is projecting 14 Million HSA-type insurance plans will be sold by the year 2010 based on the current laws (25-30 million people).
2008 Annual Contribution Levels for Health Savings Accounts (HSAs)
- The Maximum annual HSA contribution for an eligible individual with self-only coverage is $2,900.00
- For family coverage, the Maximum HSA contribution is $5,800.00
- Individuals age 55 and older can also make an additional "catch up" contribution. the Maximum annual "catch up" contribution is:
